But how does that work?
Easy. On your phone, Google has preloaded photos of many streets and streetscapes around the world as part of its mapping services. Now, while navigating somewhere new (via Google maps), if there are no images available for that area yet but you would still like to see what it looks like via street view mode, then you can simply take a picture using your phone camera. Then once you upload that image back to Google servers, they’ll convert it into a 2D street-level image that shows up on your phone as soon as you select street view mode. Magic!

However, offline maps can only give information on driving directions but traffic information will not be provided, unlike online maps.
